Katharine Hope McPhee (born May 6, 1976) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. In May of 2006, McPhee placed second in the fifth season of American Idol. Her eponymous debut album was released on RCA Records on January 30 in 2007 and was a top-two debut on the Billboard 200, selling 381,000 copies. After her exit from Scorpion her role, she was cast as Jenna Hunterson in Waitress on Broadway in 2018. From 2019-2020 she returned to Broadway with the same character. Since her first solo album "Self-titled" the singer has released four additional albums. Taylor Hicks won the 5th season of American Idol in May 2006. The then-29-year-old edged out Katharine McPhee in the race to be named the winner following her previous success through Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler.
